Sugardew Island: Tips and Tricks

Hello! I’m a backer of the Sugardew Island Kickstarter and have been playing Early Access. I’ve noticed there’s not much information online so I’ve compiled what I could on this page. Feel free to CTRL+F and find what you need. This page has been updated as of August 10, 2025.

Sugardew Island releases digitally on March 7, 2025 for $16.99.

Physical copies for Nintendo Switch and PS5 are currently being shipped for release on March 14, 2025. Xbox release is “a little later” according to the developer rokaplay.

It’s worth noting this game is not like the traditional games of Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley. Both of these are farming sim related, but a bit grindy and punishing. Sugardew Island is highly focused on the cozy aspect with very minimal punishment in its gameplay. These tips and tricks are just ways to make the game easier, but not required at all to succeed. Play the game as you see fit, there is no pressure to “win” and no “right way to play”. Props to rokaplay for capturing a farming sim’s cozy gameplay.

I’ve drafted some notes for tips and tricks that are good to know when playing Sugardew Island. I will be keeping this updated as I play and some stuff may change with patches and updates. Thank you and enjoy!

  • Save your weeds for wet fertilizer (2x Weed each). You can use the fertilizer and plant seeds for crops that harvest more than one cycle (e.g., Corn). The fertilizer stays until the crop is completely depleted. This will save energy from repeated watering. Note: You can plant the seeds and put fertilizer over it the same day, just in case.
  • You CANNOT combine Fertilizer. Pick between them carefully depending on your objectives.
  • Don’t be afraid to sell extra materials you have. Rocks, Wood, and Weeds all regrow on your island over time so if you have extra you can sell if trying to hit a Harmony goal. Buildings use more Wood than Rock so selling Rock is the safer option most of the time.
  • Hold X (Controller) to easily harvest larger trees and rocks with your tool. It will automatically swing and sometimes save you Energy.
  • Energy can be replenished by sleeping. Don’t stress if you run out and haven’t watered your crops. They will survive 1 day without watering! Also, you will gain back energy if you level up during the day.
  • Burn all energy before sleeping. Harvest trees, stones, and weeds to deplete it. You won’t pass out and it fully recovers the following day after sleeping. It’s best to stockpile early!
  • Run the store each day. The Harmony adds up and the extra sugardew is worthwhile.
  • Bulletin Board requests do give you MORE sugardew than selling in the store. They also allow you to date the NPCs. However, you do not get Harmony. Prioritize as you see fit.
  • Selling to Tomte yields less sugardew and no harmony. I did not find it worthwhile except for last minute trying to reach a monetary goal to upgrade buildings.
  • If you’re not a fan of the Bullet Board requests, you can reject it and wait the next day for a new one. This will NOT affect your relationship with the NPCs.
  • Cosmetics cannot be sold for a profit. They either break even or are sold at a loss. Keep that in mind when crafting cosmetics.
  • All animals function the same. The name is just based on their color scheme. Save your sugardew for one that you like!
  • The island pets are shown in a variety which can be adopted from Tomte. Save your sugardew for one that you like!
  • Testing with Chicken/Cow shows 40-50 days of petting for 10 hearts.
  • I’m at Day 70+ and am not maxed on my Farming, Animal, or Store levels (currently level 8-9 with an estimated max of 10 levels).
  • I have noticed that rokaplay is continuously updating the sales price of their produce. I try to update my spreadsheet below as best as possible. Take care when investing in seeds.
  • Excel Spreadsheet of crops, animals, costs, etc: Click here!

I’ve included some videos of my gameplay for those who are curious. I didn’t want them to clog up the tips and tricks section above so I left them here.
