Review: 10 Dead Doves

I had the joy of playing the most unhinged, comedy horror game of 2024: 10 Dead Doves. Lurkit offered me a free key in exchange for me streaming the game.

10 Dead Doves is a story set in early 2000s with two dudes exploring the Appalachian Mountains to try and find the “Ant Farm” to make a wish. You play as Mark who has baby momma drama with his child, Charlie.

Without spoiling anything, there is plenty of horror throughout this game to earn it the horror genre. However, the graphics, commentary, and art style turn it into a comedy. I was jump scared plenty of times but I was also laughing my ass off during serious storytelling moments.

The biggest flaws of the game is the controls. It feels very “old school” of only being able to press W to move forward. It wasn’t too bad, but there are a handful of chase scenes that were infuriating to deal with bad control schemes. Additionally, there’s a little bit of back tracking, but it wasn’t the worst thing in the world.

As the game does not spoon feed you the story, it was rather confusing to play through. The game talked about “choosing your fate” but I was rather confused the entire game of what I was choosing, exactly. However, the story was still enjoyable and I felt as though I picked the “good” ending. Hopefully!

For a 10-hour playthrough, 10 Dead Doves is a solid game and I love the combination of comedy and horror. I’ve played so many horror games it’s hard to keep them apart but this one definitely stands out!
