Review: Ranch and Pickle Cotton Candy

Fairy Tale Cotton Candy is a candy stored based out of West Des Moines, Iowa.

I discovered Iowa’s notorious cotton candy from a website where residents could vote for the “coolest thing made in Iowa“. Cotton candy isn’t anything new to me having been an avid county and state fair goer. However, the flavors definitely caught my eye. Specifically, the Ranch and Pickle flavors.

Now, I’m not a Ranch fan unless it’s dressing on a salad. But I am a huge pickle fan, which includes pickle flavored vodka and the Midwest classic of pickle wraps. I ordered both thinking it’d be a great gag gift for my family to try out. I’m not a masochist so I did order some “normal” flavors like their Hello Kitty sets, particularly to entertain my nieces.

You can see my full and honestly review above on YouTube, and honestly I’m not sure what I was expecting. They taste like both Ranch and dill pickle! Shocker, I know.

I guess if you’re a huge fan of either flavor then they’d be perfect for you. If you just like the flavors, then these probably aren’t it. The ranch is the equivalent of eating one of those Ranch seasoning packets, which is ick. The pickle is not like drinking pickle juice, which is what I was expecting. Wasn’t a fan of it and I’m unhinged and do things like drinking pickle juice.

My family didn’t like them even though my mother is a Ranch fiend and enjoys pickles like I do. On the other hand, it was a fun purchase for $5 to try out at family gathering. My nieces also greatly enjoyed their Hello Kitty cotton candy, which had normal fruit-themed flavors. I particularly liked the mermaid one which had banana!

Feel free to try some out and let me know your thoughts. They do have custom labels so I’ll be checking out their chocolate flavors!
